Butch Wynegar is a former American pro baseball player who played as catcher for the Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees and the California Angels of the Major League Baseball. Wynegar was born in York, Pennsylvania and graduated from Red Lion High School in York where he was drafted out of high school by the Minnesota Twins during the 1974 amateur draft being the second round pick of the team. Wynegar spent a few stints in the minor leagues affiliate of the Twins before making his way up to the majors. Wynegar batted with both hands and threw with his right. He made his major league debut on April 9, 1976. Wynegar became a two-time All-Star selection in 1976 and 1977 during his career with the Twins. After playing for six years with Minnesota, Wynegar was dealt by the Twins together with then teammate Roger Erickson to the New York Yankees in exchange for Pete Filson, John Pacella and Larry Milbourne . He played for the Yankees until the end of the 1986 seasons before joining the California Angels the following year and spent the rest of his remaining season having his final game on May 24, 1988.
