Clell Lavern Hobson, Jr., famously known as Butch Hobson, is a retired Major Baseball League third baseman who was born on August 17, 1951 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He played college football at University of Alabama where he became a famous varsity athlete. He was signed by the Boston red Sox in 1973 after being chosen in the amateur draft and made his first MLB appearance on September 7, 1975 for the Boston Red Sox. According to reviews, Hobson had his greatest season in 197 when he hit 30 home runs and recorded 112 runs batted in. Logging 43 errors in the 1978 season, he hit 28 home runs and 93 run batted in in 1979. He became part of the California Angels in 1981 and the New York Yankees in 1982. With the Yankees, he made played his final MLB game on August 3, 1982. He retired from professional baseball that season and went to management. He became the manager of the Pawtucket Red Sox and the major league team Boston Red Sox. Currently, he manages the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and was a recipient of the International League Manager of the Year Award. He managed the Nashua Pride which reached the Atlantic League Championship in 2000 and in 2007 Can-Am League Championship.
