Playing for 16 seasons in the National Hockey League, Butch Goring is a retired professional hockey player who became active in 1969 to 1987. He was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba and first appeared in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for the Dauphin Kings. After that stint, he became part of the 1969 NHL Entry Draft and was picked by the Los Angeles Kings. Goring spent his first season in the American Hockey League for the Springfield Indians and was able to lead the team to clinch a Calder Cup title. He was called to the NHL in the following season and was a part in the Kings roster as a starter for a total of nine seasons. In 1978, Goring received the Bill Masterton Trophy as well as the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. Goring was traded to the New York Islanders during the 1980 season and was one of the reasons that the team was able to clinch four back to back Stanley Cups. The Islanders won the Stanley Cup every year from the 1979-80 season to the 1982-83 season. He received the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1980. In 1985, Goring signed with the Boston Bruins before announcing his retirement.
