Robert Peter Geren or simply Bob Geren, was born in San Diego, California on September 22, 1961. He was a former catcher for the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres in Major League Baseball before he became the Oakland Athletics coach in 2006. He spent ten years in the minor league and was then drafted by San Diego Padres in round one of the 1979 Major League Baseball Draft. He was 24th pick overall and made his debut on May 17, 1988 for the team New York Yankees. He was with the team until 1991 and appeared on CBS daytime episode of Family Feud. He backed up Don Slaught for two seasons. His best season, reviews say, was in 1990 after he made .213 batting average and 8 home runs in 110 games. He had 31 runs batted in. He played his last Major League Baseball Season in 1993 after having the minors with Pawtucket Red Sox in 1992. After retiring as a baseball player, he managed Boston Red Sox minor league system. He was picked by Boston Red Sox director of player development Bob Schaefer to work for the team. After working with the Sox, he then became the manager of Sacramento River Cats and worked under Billy Beane, his former baseball opponent. He also managed Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Baseball League. In 2002, the team was able to win the championship. Geren was promoted to A's bench coach until 2006.
