William Ranford, known as Bill Ranford, is a retired professional hockey player who hails from Brandon, Manitoba. He is a product of New Westminster Secondary High School where he played ice hockey and spent two seasons as a star player in the team. He began his professional career with the Boston Bruins which drafted him in the 1985 National Hockey League Draft. His first rookie year in the National Hockey League was marked by his inclusion in the World Hockey League All-Star second team, and logging three wins in four possible victories for the team. His second rookie year was spent in the minor league American Hockey League. He had a Stanley Cup win in 1988 as part of the Edmonton Oilers . He was awarded with the Conn Smithe Trophy and was soon traded back to the Boston Bruins. After a short stint with the Bruins, he joined the Washington Capitals and had his third experience in the Stanley Cup Finals. After his stint with the Capitals, he played for the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, he was immediately traded to the Detroit Red Wings and had his last season in the National Hockey League in 2000. He also became part of the Canadian team that won in the World Hockey Championships in the 1994 season.
