He was born on December 14, 1949 in Vallejo, California, USA. He played his first major league game with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1969 and played his last game with the Boston Red Sox in 1990. He successfully won the National League batting title in 1980 with the Chicago Cubs and was also an All-Star in 1981. He is famous and was known by people as one of the more consistent contact hitters in the major leagues specifically in 2,517 games, he had accumulated 2,715 hits and 453 strikeouts. He was promoted to the majors as an outfielder and he moved to first base when he finally joined the Cubs. In one of the games of Boston Red Sox with the New York Mets, Buckner had committed an error as a first baseman. He unfortunately went 0-for-5 with runners on in all five at-bats during the game. He moved his family to Boise, Idaho and it is where he invested in real estate- one of the successful housing subdivisions which he developed and was named Fenway Park.
