Allie Reynolds was a former professional baseball player who hailed from Bethany, Oklahoma. He was born on February 10, 1917 in the mentioned place and had a stellar baseball career in high school and in Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College. He was drafted to play professionally by the Cleveland Indians and made his debut on the Major League Baseball on September 17, 1942. After four seasons with the Cleveland Indians, he moved to the New York Yankees via trade that made Joe Gordon a part of the Indians. Reviews say Reynolds was one of the Yankees' best pitchers. He recorded 16 wins in the 1950 season and established a record in 1951 for being the first pitcher in the American league to have two no-hitters in a single year. He also won the Hickok Belt for being named as the best athlete of the year. Reynolds received the Jim Thorpe Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993 for his remarkable contributions for the New York Yankees team. After his death on December 26, 1994, an award was named after him, the Allie Reynolds Award which is bestowed to the best senior high school player in Oklahoma.
