Currently serving as the first base coach for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Alfredo Griffin is a retired shortstop in the Major League Baseball. Griffin was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and was a switch batter. He started his professional baseball career when he signed as an amateur free agent with the Cleveland Indians in 1973. Griffin was able to make his first MLB appearance in 1976 for Cleveland. In 1978, Griffin was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays together with Victor Cruz. He started getting noticed with the Blue Jays and was even awarded the AL Rookie of the Year Award in 1979 together with John Castino. During his last year with Toronto, Griffin was named as an All-Star in 1984. He was able to play for a total of 392 consecutive games with the Blue Jays as their shortstop. In 1984, Griffin was again traded but this time to the Oakland Athletics. He had a decent stint with the Athletics and was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1988 and then back to the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992 until his retirement in 1993. Throughout his career, Griffin was able to win four World Series titles—in 1988 with the Dodgers, 1992-93 with the Blue Jays and in 2002 with the Anaheim Angels.
