Alexandr Volkov is a retired Ukrainian professional basketball player. He was born on March 28, 1964 in Omsk, Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. Volkov played as forward for the Atlanta Hawks in the National Basketball Association. Prior to joining the Hawks in the NBA, Volkov, turned pro in 1981 playing for the Ukrainian professional basketball club BC Budivelnyk for six seasons. After this, Volkov joined the Russian professional basketball team CSKA Moscow from 1986 to 1988. Volkov won a gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics, held in Seoul, South Korea, as a member of the Soviet Union national basketball team. He was listed at 6 ft. 10 in. and 218 lbs. Volkov began his career in the National Baketball Association after he was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks during the 1986 NBA draft where he was the sixth round pick of the team. Volkov played for the Hawks for four seasons from 1989 to 1992. Throughout his four NBA season career, Volkov have played 149 of which he started in 31 of them. Volkov also had averaged 6.8 points with .3 blocks, 2.6 rebounds per game with .613 averages in the free throw line. After his release from the Hawks, Volkov joined the Italian basketball playing for the Panasonic Reggio Calabria for two seasons. Volkov also joined two Greek basketball clubs; the Panathinaikos from 1993 to 1994 and the Olympiacos in 1994 to 1995. Volkov's last team was a Ukrainian basketball club, BC Kyiv, where he played from 2000 to 2002 seasons.
