Alan Thomas Hrabosky is a retired professional basketball player who was born on July 21, 1949 in Oakland, California. Known for his very colorful personality, he was nicknamed as “The Mad Hungarian”. He played highs school baseball at Savanna High School in California and was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 1967 MLB amateur draft in round eleven. However, Hrabosky did not sign with the Twins and later on was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals with which he made his first Major League Baseball game. According to extensive reviews, his best season in the league was in 1875 when he scored the highest number of saves in the National League with 22. He was given the Sporting News National League Freshman of the Year award that year. Hrabosky spent eight seasons with the Cardinals and later on joined the Kansas City Royals. After a two-year stint with the Royals, he was traded to the Atlanta Braves. With the Braves, he had seven saves and after more than three seasons with this team, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox. He retires before the 1983 season and ended his career with 64 wins, 97 saves and 3.10 ERA. He spent a few years in the underground circus after his MLB career and afterwards went to broadcasting.
