He went to San Diego State University in college and began his MLB carerr in 1996 after the Boston Red Sox drafted him in round 22 but did not entered a deal with him. He was then re-drafted by the Texas Rangers in 1999 and finally included him in the team. The next year, he joined the Oakland Athletics and played 23 games with the team. In 2003, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Jose Guillen. He recorded a 4.83 earned run average as a Red and posted a 10-9 pitching record. The next year, he helped the team win 11 games and started 19 successful games. He made 163 strikeouts and was voted as the National League Pitcher of the Month. He had a 1.93 earned run average in five starts in that season. He continued to pitch remarkably in 2006 when he did 7 pitches against the Cardinals and a complete game shutout in April. It was a win for the Reds with 11-0 points. Harang was the leader in terms of complete games strikeouts with 216 and was a very consistent pitcher of his team.
